Man Sues STM for running late

at 13:57 - 26th, January 2010
ever had a bus not show up when you're trying to get somewhere, work or whatever?
a man in Montreal sued the STM in small claims court when his bus never showed up.
from the Montreal Gazette:
MONTREAL - Who hasn’t been left waiting in the cold for a late Société de transport de Montréal bus? That’s if the bus shows up at all.

In tomorrow’s Gazette, transportation reporter Andy Riga will have the story of a Montrealer who got so fed up he took the STM to small claims court.

The STM buckled before a judge got involved, paying him $28 for his taxi fares, plus $100 in court and registered-mail costs. (The STM, however, rejected his demand for $15 in “compensation for stress” caused by one late bus plus another $90 as “token punitive damages.”)

A few months later, he submitted a $12 taxi receipt; the STM quickly cut him a cheque.

time for some serious damage control. can you imagine thousands of people suing the STM because they're running late and had to take a taxi because the metro or bus never showed up like it was supposed to?
there goes that nice surplus the STM had.

both have a point, but i think it's more about the principle of the act more than the money

no i think for he did it right. he did it to show he meant business. if he was in it for the money he would of made a class action lawsuit and sued for millions

the day a guy wins a class action suit worth millions for being late for work is the day i commit suicide for no longer having any connection left with humanity
