TV Shows to watch: The Strain
I've been looking for something else to watch while Ale is still in Europe cause we want to watch mobland together. The trailers and little videos that I saw about it seemed promising. Watching it is kind of painful though. The first episode was filled with over the top acting, people making decision that don't make sense and just generally this feeling of precovid people talking about shutting down a city and how are you not shutting down the city yet because we HAVE to shut down the city! The city in question is New York City. So why haven't you shut down the city yet?!
Biden pulls plug on COVID Lab leak investigation
Well now, this doesn't surprise me. When Trump was president he was pushing the idea of a Wuhan lab leak that caused the pandemic. People thought he was just trying to blame China and said he was being racist. You know, the usual story about Trump. Here's a report from ZeroHedge. It is ZeroHedge so take it with a grain of salt because it's "uncorroborated" and unnamed sources, but apparently others are confirming this. According to three unnamed sources, when Biden was briefed on the investigations' findings in February and March, he pulled the plug - and instead opted to trust the findings of the World Health Organization, which conducted an 'investigation' earlier this year which turned out to be nothing more than political theater, the cast of which included the highly conflicted Peter Daszak, the Fauci-funded virologist who was studying bat viruses at the Wuhan lab. I don't know why people are so against the idea of a lab leak. I figure this kind of shit happens all the time and we just don't know or the media doesn't report it. People are acting strange when it comes to this kind of idea. I personally think it was leaked, possibly man made, maybe not genetically modified or enhanced but rather steered in the right direction by scientists so to speak.
Mac OS X and iOS malware strikes China!
Just last week Sunday I got into this huge debate with a woman who owns a programming company in Edmonton that makes apps for iOS and she was saying that it's so secure and that there can't be viruses and malware on either iOS or Mac. She's been on the platform for 3 years... How could someone who programs honestly think that any OS is secure, as in 100% secure. Just ridiculous. Researchers from Palo Alto Networks (via The New York Times) have published a research paper on WireLurker, a malware new family that's been infecting both Mac OS and iOS systems over the course of the past six months. The researchers say that WireLurker, which is targeting users in China, "heralds a new era in malware attacking Apple's desktop and mobile platforms." The WireLurker malware is the "biggest in scale" in the trojanized malware family, and it is able to attack iOS devices through OS X using USB. It's said to be able to infect iOS applications similar to a traditional virus, and it is the first malware capable of installing third-party applications on non-jailbroken iOS devices "through enterprise provisioning." Thus far, WireLurker has been used in 467 OS X apps in the Maiyadi App Store, which is a third-party Mac app store in China. The apps have been downloaded 356,104 times, infecting hundreds of thousands of users. According to the researchers, WireLurker looks for iOS devices connected via USB to an infected Mac, installing malicious third-party applications onto the device even without a jailbreak. WireLurker monitors any iOS device connected via USB with an infected OS X computer and installs downloaded third-party applications or automatically generated malicious applications onto the device, regardless of whether it is jailbroken. This is the reason we call it "wire lurker". Researchers have demonstrated similar methods to attack non-jailbroken devices before; however, this malware combines a number of techniques to successfully realize a new brand of threat to all iOS devices. WireLurker exhibits complex code structure, multiple component versions, file hiding, code obfuscation and customized encryption to thwart anti-reversing. In this whitepaper, we explain how WireLurker is delivered, the details of its malware progression, and specifics on its operation. Once installed, WireLurker can collect information from iOS devices like contacts and iMessages, and it's able to request updates from attackers. It's said to be under "active development" with an unclear "ultimate goal." Palo Alto Neworks offers several recommendations for avoiding apps infected with WireLurker, including an antivirus product and Mac App Store installation restrictions that prevent apps from unknown third parties from being installed. Users should not download and run Mac apps or games from third-parry app stores, download sites, or other untrusted sources and jailbreaking should be avoided. Unknown enterprise provisioning profiles must be avoided as well, and users should avoid pairing their iOS devices with unknown computers or charging with chargers from untrusted or unknown sources. Palo Alto Networks has notified Apple of the malware, but an Apple spokesperson declined to offer a comment.
April Fool
very interesting. for those that don't have time to watch the video or can't here's the gist of it. there's a worm called Conficker.c. it's been finding its way through the world's largest network, the internet, and is set to accept a specific code on april first. this is the third revision of the code, so you may not have the latest version but that doesn't mean your clean. they don't think that this worm is too much of a threat for your personal coputer, more likely that they will use the millions of infected to target another system, maybe google servers or microsoft's. a couple of ways to check if you might be infected. open your control panel and check to see if your auto update is on, the worm generally turns it off. (might be problem for those without legit windows) do a manual update (once again might be a problem for those without genuine windows) and prevention keep your antivirus uptodate. by the way, this is for windows only, so unless you've installed windows on your mac or linux box, no need to worry |
