TV Shows to watch: Mobland
Started watching this. English mobster show starring Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan as well as some other notables. Quite good so far, very gritty.

Robot cleaner using LLM and "AI" - NEO Home Robot
Christophe showed me this thing this morning and I'm gettting such bad vibes from it.

From NEO's website

We’re an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously.

We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That’s why we’re focused on developing NEO—our flagship product—a friendly home robot designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life and handle chores for you.

Here's a keynote of the thing:

Which scifi movie do you want to quote where this thing goes horribly wrong? iRobot, Matrix, Terminator, Alien, Her, Blade Runner?

My favorite scenario is from Alien Isolation, the working joes go rogue and start killing people. I don't think our "AI" (and I use the quoted term very loosely) is anywhere near that level or ever will get to that level, but it's instantly what I thought of when I saw this thing.

People are already having superficial relationships with their "AI" companions on their phones, can you imagine someone going all in with this thing?

Also, what's with the incesant need to make mechincal things look more human?

No Time to Die
Just saw the most recent James Bond movie. I'm kind of mixed on how they're making 007 a woman, but I can appreciate how they went about doing it.

I mean, it screams of diversity for diversity sake, but the story in the movie makes complete sense and was done relatively tastefully. The only other complaint I have is that the new agent doesn't feel like a spy. Hell, they had an American agent in the movie that would fit the role better than the story they gave the new agent.

The movie itself was on of the better Bond films that I've seen too and had a pretty surprising end. Quite pleased with it all in all.

Hatred Gameplay reveal
I'd like to get people's opinions on this. It's a shooter, either isometric or first person that seems to take all the things that GTA gets a lot of flack in the media for and put them as the main purpose of the game. So, in other words, the point of the game is to violently kill as many innocent people and as many police as possible. It's dark, it's gritty, it's violent and it's gory.

From what I can see, there's even a scenario of some kind of school shooting.

I wonder if this will get the attention it deserves, good or bad. I mean GTA got tons of attention for its provocative material, while this is just some much more (...worse?)

LA Noire Gameplay
I love the style of the 40's so on that level the game has always appealed to me, though i thought of it as rockstar's take on Mafia. This, however, is totally different.

Shank Trailered and Gameplayed
Shank is a new game for Xbox live and PSN. it features 2 player beat-em-up coop play and lots and lots of over the top killing and blood. looks awesome.

watching the game brings back a lot of nostalgia of playing those old beat em ups, more so than actually playing games like castle crashers. makes me want to play double dragon...

from Kombo.com
The release date and co-op for Shank have been confirmed. Shank will hit LIVE and the PSN on the 25th and 24th of August respectively.

The title from klei and EA picked up some buzz and PAX this year and continued to roll all the way through E3. Brad Hilderbrand and I spent time with the game and its creators while he played (here's his preview) and I prodded with questions. We actually asked them about multiplayer at the time, but they declined to comment behind massive smiles.

Guy pushed off 4th floor because of religious beliefs

ignore the religious undertones of this video. it is from a christian website and of course is a little biased. does the mall look familiar?

Penn and Teller
if you've never seen the show, go out and get it, now. there's close to 7 seasons at this point, i would imagine. every minute of it is worth watching.

in this episode, penn and teller look at violent video games. you'll notice that the content is a little old though the show just came out recently.watch it all, might make you re-think your position on violent video games and minors.

personally, i dont like the idea of selling a violent videogame to someone who is early teens and younger, just seems wrong to me for some reason. maybe just the way i was brought up. hell, if there was a tv show that had too much swearing, had sex or nudity, then i couldn't watch it. back then, these uber violent games didn't exist though i'm sure i wouldn't of been allowed to play them.

same goes for my kids.if i see my kids playing something like grand theft auto before they hit maybe 14, i'll stop them. hell, my godchild was playing GTA4 last christmas, he must be 12 by now, with the help of my aunt we finally got the game away from him. put up one hell of a fight too.

i applaud those parents who take an active role in what their children do, and i don't think it's the government's job to allow or deny kids from playing these games. at the same time i agree with their decision to force parents or an adult to buy mature rated games for children. if it's the parent that buys the game, it makes them more active in the life of their child.
