Youtube shorts are a plague to humanity (thank you tiktok) but one of the things they do bring up is little parts of movies that catch my interest.
I'm switching to newpipe for when i want to watch shit. No tracking, no shorts, no ads. Highly suggest. It just has two small issues:
Because there's no tracking, it has no real way to keep track of things you watched and so doesn't really suggest new things for you because it just relies on the youtube algorithm as if you're not logged in and watching something for the first time. To kind of get around this you can upload your profile but you can't update it through newpipe from what I've found.
It's a constant game of cat and mouse. Google changes the protocol slightly and newpipe stops working. Newpipe fixes the issue with an update and Google breaks it again.This is because youtube wants those advertising dollars. Seriously, I don't know how anyone uses youtube outside of non-advertising countries. It's attrocious.
