TV Shows to watch: The Strain
I've been looking for something else to watch while Ale is still in Europe cause we want to watch mobland together. The trailers and little videos that I saw about it seemed promising.

Watching it is kind of painful though. The first episode was filled with over the top acting, people making decision that don't make sense and just generally this feeling of precovid people talking about shutting down a city and how are you not shutting down the city yet because we HAVE to shut down the city!

The city in question is New York City. So why haven't you shut down the city yet?!

TV shows to watch: The Gorge
I've decided I'm going to do one for different interests just as a way to remind myself about some of these things cause I have a bad tendency of thinking "shit that looks great" and then never remembering to get back to it.

Seems like a lot of sci fi romance here but the sci fi aspect of it does appeal to me.

New internet discoveries I made today
So surfing reddit a bit today and found some things that I'd thought I'd share. First, the new subreddits that I'm subscribed to:

There are some more, but they're not post worthy.

Game music brought this little thing to my attention

Quite a gem if you ask me. Also this, which is a remix of sorts of the original from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

And finally this, which I had spent countless hours playing. Probably the best online FPS of it's time.

Minecraft: Combining 2 maps and Minecraft cubed
So Andy and I were talking yesterday about Minecraft and two things came up, Minecraft3 and bringing two maps together to have 1 server.
I'll tackle the Minecraft3 first.

Minecraft3

All the intormation and more can be found in the Reddit post in the Minecraft subreddit.
Minecraft3, or minecraft cubed as I like to call it, is a mod that pretty much turns the game on its head. It adds so much to the game that basically makes it a new game.
Almost dynamic weapons, new monsters, new biomes, variants of the different monsters that are already in the game, a new perk system, new leveling system, more loot, new dungeons, bosses in the dungeons and built in shops with currency from killing mobs.

Strictly speaking weapons and mobs now. Tools will have different levels and items will have different rarities. Weapons will be procedurally generated, that is to say that they weapon system will be more like Diablo's. Just an example of the different variants and different affects each weapon could potentially have, here's a couple of videos.

The biomes will also change a bit, they're working on adding content to the ocean biome so it's more interesting to play around and explore. On top of that they're adding a couple new biomes, only one has kind of been shown.

For the mobs, here's a perfect video of the different types of precedurally generated mobs you'll be able to find.

And here's an image of some other kind of new mobs.
New mobs from minecraft3

There's so much more to this ambitious mod, I'm hoping it gets released.

Stitching or combining two minecraft servers together

Did a little research and it looks like it may be possible. Someone released a tool called MCmerge. Basically what it does is take the two maps and puts them side by side and then puts a river through the middle and smooths the edges so that it looks more natural.

Here's the tool.

Requirements:
Python 2.6+
NumPy
SciPy
pywin32 (on Windows)

and should end up looking something like this:

Andy, want to try it? I'm very curious to see how it'll turn out.

Traffic Barrel Monster
This is almost as good as Giant Lego Man Found on Beach.

Barrel Monster Man

NC State student Joseph Carnevale, the artist behind the Traffic Barrel Monster, has been arrested for stealing the barrels and "cutting and screwing them together to make a statue," which apparently is a misdemeanor in North Carolina.

Carnevale goes by the name "uliveuburn" and has been a fixture in the Raleigh-area street art scene for a while, notable for his creation of the Boylan Bridge Angry Man. Given the similar theme and creativity it didn't take the local police long to decide the 21-year-old is to blame. The total cost of the damage has been estimated at $360 and a court case is scheduled for July 21st.
