PicoLoader and SD2DP2 mod for gamecube
Just got this on aliexpress and it cost less that what is described in the video, mine was 14 bucks. Believe it or not there are still some gamecube games I'd love to play and this might be the easiest way to do that.
Firefox - a modern ai browser
Whatever that means anyways... I don't know what Mozilla is thinking with this one, but my firefox updated and I got an alert about ai implementation in it. Clicked read more and in the new tab, disable. Thanks Mozilla... I'm getting tired of AI everything. Can we move onto the next fad already?
Modding the Wii U
One of the things I'd always wanted to do with my Wii U was to mod it. I even bought the ds games that were supposed to help with breaking open the os before they shut down the store. I just never got around to it. Things have changed drastically since then and I think this might be even easier now with way more to do including getting the wii u online services running again. I'm just waiting on a power cable to see if that's what the problem with my wii u is. The cable I have seems to have some fraying on it so I'm hoping a simple replacement will get the thing working again.
New modding tools for modding old pc games on the fly - RTXRemix
This is pretty interesting. NVIDIA has been developing, or at least help develop tools that would allow modders to add RTX lighting to almost any game. At least it started out that way, but soon became a tool one can use to exchange assets and textures as well. Apparently, and this is a very Layman's way of saying this, the tool is able to do this by "interrupting" the drawing of assets, lighting and textures and replacing them with whatever someone wants before they are drawn on screen. It's sounds overtly complicated, but this video shows precisely how easy the system actually works. You will need RTXRemix and an Nvidia card of course.
The wonders of AI, a Google and Reddit Story
Google recently paid Reddit 60mil to have their AI (LLM) go through the entire Reddit site so that it could learn and become more useful. Open AI did this with X after Elon bought Twitter and he sued them for going through without permission. On a slight tangent, this is the probably the first and only way that Reddit will make money since going public. Anyway, knowing Reddit, you can imagine how smart this "AI" is now. A perfect example is someone asked google how to get the cheese to stick to pizza. It answered with, use glue. Why did it give that answer? Because some dude 10 years ago joked about that's how he got his cheeze to stick to his cold pizza. Fucking brilliant
Things to do on the WiiU in 2024
Love Modern Vintage Gamer, has to be one of the most interesting and well put together video game channels that is entirely unique content. Not sure if I've mentioned him before but his channel is about retro games, modding consoles, the emulator scene and loads of other things, but from a very technical stand point. He's pretty much single handedly bringing attention to bring life back to dead consoles scene and it's really well done. This particular video is for me really since I'm one of the few people I know with a WiiU, but he has plenty of other content that might interest people. The Wii U was a system that Nintendo would rather forget. But for modders, it's nearly the perfect console which can play the (almost) entire back catalog of Nintendo games that game before it - and many other emulators and homebrew. While modding the Wii U isn't anything new - in today's video we take a look at the most up to date homebrew environment known as Aroma that not only makes the Wii U easier to hack, but it also makes it the experience so much better. Let's check it out. ? Up to date Wii U hacking guide : https://wiiu.hacks.guide/ ? Aroma Download - https://aroma.foryour.cafe/ Will definitely need to try and do this with mine. I loved the WiiU, thought it was entirely underrated. I'm on to the Switch now but would love to bring some life back into it.
World's smallest Gamecube - The GameCube Nano
This is pretty cool. Someone cut up the wii's Gamecube mobo to its bare minimum to function correctly, added 2 or 3 microboard and housed it in an adorable mini gamecube case. I have a GC and would be very willing to get a micro console like this. I've been thinking about modding my current gamecube to red sd cards instead of discs since the optical drive will eventually die. This channel deals with retro console mods. It's done pretty well and can has given step by step instructions for different mods.
Coding Secrets - Programmer's Tales of what it was like programming for systems like the Sega Gensis
I've been watching this guys videos pretty consistently for the last couple of weeks and truth be told it's made me want to get my hands dirty again. He used to make games for the Amiga, Commodore 64, Genesis, Saturn, Playstation and have some insight into Nintendo consoles as well. It's really quite fascinating the thought process he has for solving some of the more challenging problems that they would come up with while making games. Here's a video regarding the Moose chasing Mickey portion of one of the Mickey Mouse games on Genesis.
What are you guys doing during lock-down?
Lock-down hit St. Kitts about a week and a half ago. Just curious as to what you guys have been doing. Exercise Everyday I have a workout routine I've made for myself that I keep track of with the jefit app on my phone. It's a 5 day split where everyday I work on a different part of the body. Games I've been playing minecraft with my brothers off and on. They've added so much to the game since notch left. quite something. Aside from that, I've been playing some Wii U - Hyrule Warriors, Ducktales, Xenoblade Chronicles X. I think I'm going to hack my wii u too. It's way past end of life and apparently the softmod is easy to do. TV I've been watching the punisher series on netflix, I still have to finish the expanse and I've been watching way too much youtube. Movies I've been trying to clear out a backlog of movies, usually sci-fi and action movies since I haven't been able to watch them for the last little while. So far I've watched Upgrade and underwater. Upgrade is a fun movie with a surprising ending, underwater has to do with Cthulhu. Both decent and if you're looking for a fun movie to watch, I suggest either.
MegaDrive for gamecube
Not exactly what you're thinking, this is a addon to hard mode a gamecube. Something I haven't really thought about until recently. The only problem is I have a brand new second hand gamecube that I'm not sure I want to gut just yet.
Searching for flights in your browser
I have long told people, search for airline tickets in private browser windows, do not log into the sites until you're ready to purchase or put a hold on the ticket. I was just doing a search in chrome on aa.com for flights to montreal for Easter. At first I was going to pay with miles which meant two things, 1 I had to login and 2 I had to buy extra miles to get the ticket. Initially I would of needed about 66k miles to get to montreal with mediocre seats and with multiple stops along the way. Adversely, I could pay extra for an upgrade in miles and get more direct flights. I think the total for the initial miles i needed were 1000$ which did not include the miles I already had in my account. Upgraded would of been close to 1500$. Literally 2 minutes later I repeated the search but this time in a private firefox window, without login in and simply asked for a price of the ticket instead of going the miles route. I got direct flights for 200$ less than my search in Chrome. Below are screen grabs of both windows. This is absolutely criminal. People, use private windows or at least multiple browsers when looking for tickets!
Simcity 2013 getting an offline mode
Let’s get right to it. SIMCITY OFFLINE IS COMING! I’ve wanted to say those words for quite some time, so my apologies that I didn’t take the time to say Happy New Year first. Source Simcity.com (http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/simcity-offline-is-coming) Wow, this clusterfuck just doesn't want to stop. Will any one be buying it? I more than likely won't, it's just too little too late. With games like Banished coming out soon it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Oh, if you want a good laugh, read the comments section in the source. Highlights include Submitted by Paxam on Jan 13, 2014 How's the simulation going to run without the power of "the cloud" behind it? Submitted by phprof on Jan 13, 2014 It never needed the cloud. The servers facilitated session storage and online interaction. The engine itself runs locally. Submitted by PetersJustin on Jan 13, 2014 They always said that it COULD NOT RUN on a PC locally. The glassbox engine needed too many calculations to run all the agents. The community never believed it, only people like you. People that now say it is not needed. Also the bigger maps, EA sais it is not possible, but the community will not belive it. It is a matter of time before the community can make it happen. Getting gamecube games working on a wii
I need to decide if I want to do this or not. I have a feeling it's the only way I'm going to get to play Starfox for the Gamecube.
Grand Theft Auto 5 Gameplay Rundown
Wow, that' ambitious. It's like they're throwing everything in there, even the drain attached to the kitchen sink. Things to note: 3 main characters that you can change between during any point in the game. During or between missions, watching their family life, running away from cops, on bounty hunts, doesn't matter. Seems like you'll be able to live in this world, one of the characters has a (dysfunctional) family. During off parts you can go play sports or go to the beach or hang-gliding. Even go shopping. Looks like everything is customizable. Want new rims on that shit box you just stole from a poor family? Sure. Want to buy designer clothes for yourself? Sure. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to upgrade family man's house too. Plan missions yourself and decide what members of the team you take in. I'm not sure if this is plan them from scratch or they give you two options (guns blazing or sneak in quietly) and you choose one of the two. At any rate, the game looks huge and this idea of planning your missions and switching between characters seems very cool to me. My favourite part: After violently throwing someone into a trailer he turns to the fat lady and she says: "Hey, how've you been?" "Oh wonderful, and you?" "Somewhere stuck between joyful and peachy" Here's hoping it comes to PC. |
