Games to Play: Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight Silksong
I just posted this in the chat and then did a search and realized I never posted anything about this.

This is one of my favorite games. It's a metroidvania with "hand drawn" graphics in a darksouls shell. The lore is amazing, the gameplay is great, the music is phenomenal. An absolute gem of a game.
If you like Metroidvanias and haven't tried this one yet, go get it on your system of preference. It's pretty much on everything at this point.

Then Team Cherry announced a direct sequel to Hollow Knight. I was worried that it would suffer from sequelitis and at first it did. It's slow and difficult to get into but it hit me yesterday that I was prefering Hollow Knight because my last memory of that game was me being decked out in all the best stuff so this one felt clunky.

Honestly, the lore is starting to grow on me. I've gotten to the point that I feel more agile in the game because of the upgrades I've achieved and found and the boss fights are tough but engaging.

Funny thing is, apparently people complained that the game was too difficult so Team Cherry released a patch to make the game easier. Supposedly, when certain things hit you, taken off two hearts instead of one is too difficult for people.
I've refused to download the patch, and sure there are times when I think the game is being cheap or ridiculous, but I keep at it and when I beat those bosses it just makes the victory that much more worth it.

Seriously, go get these games. Hollow Knight is selling for 15$ on steam and Silkson for 20$. I got Hollow knight on steam but decided to go switch for silksong. No regrets, I played it for hours on the flight across the Atlantic.

Epic Games Store price experiment not as successful as originally thought
That's a hell of a title for an article but hear me out.

There's a lot to digest here but here are some snippets from an Arstechnica article about the subject.

The Epic Games Store's two-year-plus experiment in reduced platform fees provides plenty of evidence on this score. Just look at any of the dozens of games available on both the EGS (where Epic charges publishers a 12 percent fee) and Steam (where Valve charges a 30 percent standard fee).

In almost every case, those games will be offered at the same base price. Instead of passing on the savings, the publishers just pocket the 18 percentage-point difference between the EGS cut and the Steam cut. The only real exceptions come when a store is having a temporary sale, after which the games revert to identical prevailing pricing standards in almost every case.

One of the original idea behind Epic's lower "commission" fee on games was that the savings would be passed on to customers, but 2 years in and that isn't the case. Sidenote, would this be considered a kind of trickle down economics?

There's a bit on price parity and how Steam's policies are breaking things, but this is standard practice in an open market. I remember when Vikie was working at Expedia it was the same thing. If she found her "clients" were advertising lower prices on any competitors it was a big deal. They had to have the same or better pricing on Expedia for the same amount of time.

The article is an interesting read if you have 10 minutes.

Half Life Alyx

I'm totally willing to try this if it's not one of those stationary or jump from this location to that location shooters like most other VR games.

Also surprising how many VR systems it supports.

Valve Announces foray into Operating Systems with SteamOS
We all kinda knew it was coming, it was rumoured since Microsoft announced it's plans to create an app store and there was word of services like steam being blocked by MS.

Constantly evolving

Worldwide
Steam is in 185 countries and has been translated into 25 languages. As a truly global platform, Steam, and now SteamOS, brings entertainment to an audience without borders.

The whole thing seems pretty interesting and kinda promising, built on Linux even. Makes me wonder what kind of impact this is going to have on Microsoft and Windows. Windows is pretty well entrenched in the corporate environment but their position in the living room is constantly under attack by Apple, Google, Sony and even a bit by Nintendo. I don't want to sound like an end of the world kind of person but I wonder how much this will damage Microsoft.

Dying to see what it'll look like.

I mean i have far more than enough to play on os9 right now, it's just that for that price it's totally worth it.
