Bob Gainey expected to announce his stepping down today at 4pm
Posted by
Don't know how true it is but a lot of the habs fans are celebrating.
habs inside/out is reporting The Canadiens have called a 4 p.m. press conference at the Bell Centre. Team president Pierre Boivin will make "an important announcement regarding the Club's management". TSN's all-knowing Bob McKenzie says Bob Gainey is stepping down and Pierre Gauthier is taking over as interim general manager. Gauthier, who will be 57 in May, joined the Canadiens as director of pro scouting in 2003. He added the title of assistant general manager three years later. A native of Montreal, Gauthier has served as GM of the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Gauthier is a vegetarian who is known as the wrong man to ask about nutrition unless you have an hour to spare. We'll be at the press conference with news, comment and audio. i see bad things coming. price traded being the top of the list, that or just let go. halak around for another 2 maybe 3 years and not doing as well as this year. turcot for price? will be interesting to say the least. i'm sure schu will have something to say. bob, i'm sad to see you go. • Alex i wonder if the team rebuild is having anything to do with this. there was a lot of talk before the season began about if the canadiens didn't do well then gainey should be let go. i would of given him 2 years to turn the team around from last season's monstrosity. maybe he's had enough, or maybe he knows the end is coming and is deciding to get out while the gettings good
Bob's staying on as a special advisor. So he's basically doing like Bowman is in Chicago.
dammit, i read the poll incorrectly at tsn.ca
it was asking which was the best move gainey made trading for kovalev signing radek bonk and huet getting josh georges signing cammalleri signing price i voted kovalev though i read trading kovalev, as in getting rid of him. doh ...That poll makes absolutely no sense...
Trading for Kovy was a steal. Bonk was a great faceoff guy and a big guy (continued his good work with the Predators) and getting Huet was ok at the time (no way this team would pay him 5mil to backup). Gorges was a steal (+ the draft pick which was Pacioretty all for Rivet), Cammy was a great signing, singing Price (eh? he was drafted you TSN morons). i think cammy was the best of the litter.
i don't know what was given for kovy, but i just loathe kovalev now... He gave absolutely nothing for Kovy. It was awesome.
Also ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH Pouliot is out until March. The plus side is Bergeron is out until then too, woo! hehe, oh slippy...
he hasn't been as affective since teams realized about his shot... Shoots it in shinpads...
Shoots it wide of the net... Gomez can bury it more than him x_x Oh well, at least he's cheap.

And if they trade Price may they enjoy another two decades of stupidity. Looks like the kid has the Jeff Hackett Curse (an excellent goalie trapped perpetually behind horrible teams). Turco should be his mentor, not traded for him.
Boivin needs to step down more (mr language is more important than credentials). Gauthier I'm of two minds of...'cause the pro scouting on this team is on the top of my list of question marks and that was his department...
