Man thought girl was 16

at 12:27 - 23rd, October 2008

CALGARY -- Having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl he believed was older was not a criminal act by a Calgary man, a judge ruled yesterday.

Millar said the Calgary man, then 26, was led to believe - by her web posting, a nude photo she sent him and her claims of sexual experience - that she was older than she was.

woah woah woah!
ok, i'm totally against using insanity as a defense. the old 'i couldn't help it because it's in my nature' bullshit doesn't fly with me.

besides, the judge should of just followed the rule on this one. half your age plus 5...

isnt it more the girls fault in this case? she tricked him, not the other way around... if she looks 16 and acts 16 how can you tell the difference?

There are legal age limits that are set and that should be followed. Not some screwed up math equation or omg she tricked me (like they haven't heard that one). Either way you kind of know.

My philosphy is card your women before bed time ;)

lol, would make for an awkward evening. you wine and dine the girl and then card her. later on you find out you were boozing a minor...

my question is who the hell pressed charges, if the girl wanted to at the age of 13, then there must be some problems in that house.

parents don't seem to be around too much in the first place if their 13 year old girl is picking up 26 year old guys.

Yeah but welcome to modern day society where parents expect everyone else to raise their child. It's like when your kid hit 5 you give him a cell phone and send him to school and just pay bills.

All it takes is some monitoring on the part of the parent.

i'm a big believer in nurture over nature, and i know that society is only as good as the worst person in it. so society or the government rearing my children ain't going to happen.

It's being cautious about your children. Honestly when it comes down to it, children can get away with what they want if they try but parents still have to keep as in the loop as possible. Were just saying overall that parents need to be more active in their childrens activities especially online activities.

Your particular tastes at 14 years of age are your own, however common sense says maybe not the greatest decision as it can be risky especially these days with all the pervs out there.

I think that what the "common sense" says is outdated. Sure the world change and the type of risk evolve also. But I dont this the number of pervs out there has increased.

I am sick of hearing parents overreacting. Having sex is not the equivalent of taking drugs and dropping out of school. If we woudnt teach our kids that sex is a big risky no no, maybe we would have less psychological addiction relating to sex when they get older.

And please, I am begging people not to start talking about consequences of having sex so young; we all know them. I am talking about responible sex here.

Now for the consequences... lol just teasing

Well honestly our parents are from another era. Marriage everlasting, six feet of snow, etc. I think they do emphasize too much that sex is horrible and stay away from it. I think it does push young kids to try it because they are being rebels and shoving it in their parents face.

And while statistically the number of pervs may be the same, with the net they are more accessible.
