Review of NHL 2k9

at 12:31 - 15th, September 2008

not mine, but i did find it interesting nonetheless.

There's a distinct advantage that comes with being one of a kind on a given system. Usually, having only one game to fill a given niche is rare, but that's a luxury that NHL 2K9 on the Wii enjoys. At present, there are no other true simulation-style hockey games on the system. Thankfully, the game is a good effort.

true, so does this mean we should wait for another one to come out? i dunno.
The true draw here is, of course, Wii control. 2K Sports has put forth a decent first effort with the Wii control, and much of what is implemented is good.

my main issue i had when deciding to buy this (i don't actually have it, yet) is the control. is it waggle? the case doesn't have a gamecube logo on the back so it's strictly a wiimote game.
The I.R. passing mechanic is the best element of the Wii control implemented, and will likely be the one feature which all future Wii hockey games adopt.

awesome, this is definitely a killer decision.

anyway, i don't want to quote the entire article because it wouldn't be fair. but the gist of it is that ars is comparing it to redsteel. great idea, maybe not the best implementation, but it's a decent start to a genre of game on a fledgeling system with new control scheme.
i'll have a review of the game after i get it.

I have 2k7 on my 360 and no need to purchase anymore NHL games unless there is a drastic improvement. And I cannot imagine myself waggling for 3 periods. I think it will get real old real fast. Better to invest in actual quality then a "good" attempt

aye, but i don't have a 360 or ps3
maybe with a couple more price drops, but not yet.
so for me, this might just do.
maybe i'll rent it this coming weekend and see how people like it and make a final decision then.
the controls might be god awful, afterall
