Developers kept in the dark about motion plus

at 23:46 - 22nd, July 2008

i had a feeling of this with carrie dunaway's interview. why would you release a sword fighting game / lightsaber fighting game without the ability to actually code the game with realistic sword battles when you know the ability is on the way.

We asked several third-party Wii developers about the Wii MotionPlus, and the general feeling was one of annoyance and betrayal. None of them said they had any advance notice about the peripheral, and we were told that they were as surprised as everyone else when Nintendo revealed its existence on stage. That lack of prior notice means that, aside from Nintendo’s own roster of games, users won’t likely see any support for the device for at least six to nine months. The developers we spoke to said they hadn’t received any information from Nintendo about how to implement Wii MotionPlus into their upcoming projects, and they also expressed doubt that they would be able to incorporate it into games that are currently deep in development.

bad nintendo, bad

i understand secrecy from the consumers, it would of stopped people from buying games or wii's until this came out and might of been included with the system. but devs? doesn't make any sense

Nope not at all. And from my experience at EA secrecy is there and people usually abide by them. I suppose you have the occasional rogue who releases tidbits on the net but otherwise everyone respected the job enough to stay shut.

But yeah keeping dev's out of the loop will hurt you in the end. As in waiting a year for motion plus support. And if dev's aren'T alienated at that. Piss them off and you will never get support

you'd think nintendo would do everything possible to make devs happy so the wii gets the support it deserves, but then they do shit like this.

i mean E3 would of been so much better had they had the devs from Clone Wars on stge with fully functional game using motion plus.

hell, i think a demo of the original red steel with motion plus would of gotten a lot of credit for and possibly applause for being the game they said it would be.

i guess the figure that with the wii as different as it is they can hide shit like this from devs and they're forced to play catch up
