Robot cleaner using LLM and "AI" - NEO Home Robot

at 13:51 - 29th, October 2025
Christophe showed me this thing this morning and I'm gettting such bad vibes from it.

From NEO's website

We’re an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously.

We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That’s why we’re focused on developing NEO—our flagship product—a friendly home robot designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life and handle chores for you.

Here's a keynote of the thing:

Which scifi movie do you want to quote where this thing goes horribly wrong? iRobot, Matrix, Terminator, Alien, Her, Blade Runner?

My favorite scenario is from Alien Isolation, the working joes go rogue and start killing people. I don't think our "AI" (and I use the quoted term very loosely) is anywhere near that level or ever will get to that level, but it's instantly what I thought of when I saw this thing.

People are already having superficial relationships with their "AI" companions on their phones, can you imagine someone going all in with this thing?

Also, what's with the incesant need to make mechincal things look more human?

And the price, 500$ a month or 20000$ one time fee. Crazy.

$500/month to be eventually murdered? I'll pass

I would consider buying one of those robot vacuum or lawn mover things, as long as it's designed for one specific task and doesn't need to be connected to the internet or need some retarded app on my phone

Someone will 100% want to fuck it, that's why. We're a deranged species.

MKBHD did a quick breakdown of this thing. Apparently, in its current state it's a lot of smoke and mirrors. Essentially, someone can remote into this thing with a vr headset and control the thing. It's impressive stuff when you think hard about it, but at a glance, there's no "AI" in it yet. I'm going to be very surprised if this thing comes close to what they're advertising it as.
