Nintendo kind of announces Nintendo Switch 2 at Financial call

at 15:32 - 28th, June 2023
This is so typical. I held off as long as I could on buying a Switch because there was always rumors of a Switch Pro model just on the horizon. Kind of like the DS, DSi, 2 and 3DS XL models inevitably being released. And the jump from standard to XL was always such a huge leap in both processing power as well as screen space that it just made sense to either upgrade if you already owned an original or wait until the XL came out.

I got a switch because I wanted to play Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, it was a must buy for me. I'd waited long enough and Nintendo kind of seemed like they gave up on the idea of a Switch Pro.

I finally got it in my hands and then 2 weeks later Nintendo announces they're working on a successor. I'm not surprised by this, not at all, but damn man, I was expecting a bit of a delay. I guess I just took too long to get a Switch.

Anyway, the question of backwards compatibility now arises. Nintendo hasn't made any official statement other than, we have "no comment". So leave it to MVG (Modern Vintage Gaming) to take a dive into it. If you have never heard of this guy, he's great. Has a history of programming and specifically takes deep dives into emulation. Pretty intense stuff and pretty interesting.

Honestly, I was surprised that there wasn't a new switch released with Tears of the Kingdom. It felt like it would be perfect timing and I was half expecting it. It'll suck if it isn't backwards compatible. The main reason i'd like it to be is for when my switch eventually dies since I got it at release.

The main game i'd like more performance for is tears of the kingdom, but it hasn't been that big a deal for me. How are you finding the game, I've been really liking the changes from breath of the wild.

I have to add you as a friend or whatever on my switch
How do we do that?

Nintendo still uses friend codes and you have to pay for the online service to do play multiplayer games. Let me know if you want my friend code.

bought a second hand switch off amazon about a year ago - I basically just use it for an official NES or SNES emulator, and occasionally some switch mario kart. don't regret buying it one bit.

I've got qualms about buying the mariokart for switch. I know they've added courses and whatnot but the majority of the game is the same on the wii u and I have that one.

indeed, i thought many of courses looked familiar! the switch is the first nintendo console i've bought since the game boy colour so it should hopefully last me a while (although i suspect not as long)
