Minecraft: Combining 2 maps and Minecraft cubed

at 13:52 - 7th, December 2012
So Andy and I were talking yesterday about Minecraft and two things came up, Minecraft3 and bringing two maps together to have 1 server.
I'll tackle the Minecraft3 first.

All the intormation and more can be found in the Reddit post in the Minecraft subreddit.
Minecraft3, or minecraft cubed as I like to call it, is a mod that pretty much turns the game on its head. It adds so much to the game that basically makes it a new game.
Almost dynamic weapons, new monsters, new biomes, variants of the different monsters that are already in the game, a new perk system, new leveling system, more loot, new dungeons, bosses in the dungeons and built in shops with currency from killing mobs.

Strictly speaking weapons and mobs now. Tools will have different levels and items will have different rarities. Weapons will be procedurally generated, that is to say that they weapon system will be more like Diablo's. Just an example of the different variants and different affects each weapon could potentially have, here's a couple of videos.

The biomes will also change a bit, they're working on adding content to the ocean biome so it's more interesting to play around and explore. On top of that they're adding a couple new biomes, only one has kind of been shown.

For the mobs, here's a perfect video of the different types of precedurally generated mobs you'll be able to find.

And here's an image of some other kind of new mobs.

There's so much more to this ambitious mod, I'm hoping it gets released.

Stitching or combining two minecraft servers together

Did a little research and it looks like it may be possible. Someone released a tool called MCmerge. Basically what it does is take the two maps and puts them side by side and then puts a river through the middle and smooths the edges so that it looks more natural.

Here's the tool.

Python 2.6+
pywin32 (on Windows)

and should end up looking something like this:

Andy, want to try it? I'm very curious to see how it'll turn out.

Have you guys heard of Feed the Beast. It's a bunch of mods bundled together that add hundreds of items that can be created. Add a bunch of new ores to find and a new area called the Twilight forest that you can build a portal to. Lots of cool stuff like mining lasers and an automated quarry and you can use pipes to transport and filter items. Really easy to install.

Lol, just found something really great on feed the beast. One of the included mods gives you stuff from portal like the portal gun and companion cubes. You can also get records for the portal ending song, but in order to get it, you have to burn a companion cube.
