Apple announces new iPad mini and Macbook pro 13" Retina Display, updates Mac Mini and redesigns iMac line and "new"iPad"at 15:34 - 23rd, October 2012Tags: Apple, imac, mac mini, ipad mini, macbook pro 13" retina, retina display, thin all in one computers
Let's start with the Mac Mini because quite frankly I want to talk desktop computers and not tablets.
Mac Mini![]() Tech Specs![]() 2.5GHz 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz) with 3MB L3 cache 500gigs hard drive 4 gigs ram (up to 16g of 1600mhz) Thunderbolt digital video output Native Mini DisplayPort output DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately) VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately) Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately) Thunderbolt port (up to 10 Gbps) FireWire 800 port (up to 800 Mbps) Four USB 3 ports (up to 5 Gbps) HDMI port SDXC card slot Gigabit Ethernet port Audio in/out IR receiver There's also a 2.3ghz quad core i7 model, the only difference between the two: 2.3GHz 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) with 6MB L3 cache Configurable to 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz). 1tb hard drive iMacHere's the big one for me, not because of what's in it but because of how it looks. This picture doesn't do it justice. ![]() Tech Specsthere are four different cpu configurations so I won't go into as much detail. 2.5ghz quad core i5 up to 3.2 ghz quad core i5. i7 3.1ghz and 3.4ghz is BTO 8gig standard for RAM, upgrade able to 32gigs. Apple is "introducing" the fusion drive, something PCs have had for a while but only now is coming with macs out of the box. It's basically a SSD and HDD in one. Standard is 1TB but can get BTO of 3 TB. ![]() SDXC card slot Four USB 3 ports Two Thunderbolt ports Mini DisplayPort output with support for DVI, VGA, and dual-link DVI (adapters sold separately) 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector) There isn't much difference with the new macbook pro 13" aside from the retina and small speed bump, and forget the ipad news, Nothing important there. Why not get an android tablet over the iPad? ![]() News comment 3 | User comment 4939 | 9:34 - 24th, Oct 2012 Just found out today that the 21" imac Has soldered ram, so you have to max it at purchase and pay apple their premium.
![]() News comment 4 | User comment 1346 | 15:45 - 24th, Oct 2012 that's ridiculous.. also, Apple's RAM price is always way expensive
![]() News comment 5 | User comment 1346 | 15:46 - 24th, Oct 2012 if I had 350$ to throw out I'd get an ipad mini.. looking to get a tablet, but the kindle fire isn't bad either AND cheaper
![]() News comment 6 | User comment 4939 | 18:28 - 24th, Oct 2012 Everything is cheaper. I found a website with parts to build a Mac pro for nearly 1/2 the price. Honestly thinking about doing it. Just need the disposable cash
![]() News comment 7 | User comment 1046 | 1:37 - 26th, Oct 2012 You should get a Nexus 7 instead of the Kindle. Much more powerful and it's stock android instead of the OS that Amazon modified. You don't have access to the Play store unless you install another OS on the fire. It's 209$
![]() News comment 8 | User comment 1346 | 17:02 - 21st, Nov 2012 so what's the best tablet out there? I've been doing some research, but can't find anything conclusive.
Nexus seems to be winning, however the Samsung & Asus ones don't seem too bad. iPad is out - too freaking locked down ![]() News comment 9 | User comment 4939 | 20:08 - 21st, Nov 2012 I was wondering the same thing but for a base ebook reader.
As far as tablets go, I have no idea. Best person to talk to would be eric i think. I'll ask him his opinion and post my findings. ![]() News comment 10 | User comment 1346 | 21:55 - 21st, Nov 2012 i went to look at future shop earlier, there are too many out there - it's too bad the ipad is such garbage, the ipad mini *looks* really nice
![]() News comment 11 | User comment 4939 | 0:05 - 22nd, Nov 2012 thing is the ipad isnt garbage as soon as you unlock it. and if it wasn't so bloody expensive it'd be even better.
![]() News comment 12 | User comment 1346 | 9:50 - 22nd, Nov 2012 yeah - problem is on A5 models w/ ios6, the jailbreak isn't out yet :( supposedly they are having a tough time with it
![]() News comment 13 | User comment 4939 | 10:19 - 22nd, Nov 2012 hmm, then would be best to go with Samsung tablet or fire, no? same HD screen, more open, can find a way to do all the things ipad does, for free i might add, and the tablet itself should cost less.
![]() News comment 14 | User comment 1346 | 11:56 - 22nd, Nov 2012 downside of nexus, the screen itself is much nicer on the ipad mini... gahhh decisions
maybe ill wait for the next jailbreak ![]() News comment 15 | User comment 4939 | 12:24 - 22nd, Nov 2012 i thought nexus had a hd screen while mini didn't
![]() News comment 16 | User comment 1046 | 12:53 - 22nd, Nov 2012 In terms of resolution, the ipad mini has 163 pixels per inch, but the nexus 7 has 216
![]() News comment 17 | User comment 1346 | 14:09 - 22nd, Nov 2012 i think it's the brightness mostly - someone at work has a nexus 7, im gonna compare with an ipad
![]() News comment 18 | User comment 4939 | 15:17 - 22nd, Nov 2012 k, let me know what you think.
Also, any idea for a cheap yet good e-reader? ![]() News comment 19 | User comment 1046 | 0:16 - 23rd, Nov 2012 You can get a PRS-T1 tommorow at future shop for 99$. It's what i have an I've found it pretty good.
![]() News comment 20 | User comment 1046 | 11:45 - 23rd, Nov 2012 Looks like they also have a kindle for 89$ on amazon
![]() News comment 22 | User comment 1346 | 9:36 - 24th, Nov 2012 somewhat - nothing stops you from loading a pdf other other document to it though
