i hope nintendo doesn't go the way of sega. i despise the idea of having to purchase more than one console to get my favorite games from nintendo.

PSP going to outsell the DS in Japan?

gizmodo has 8 resons why they think this is going to happen.
they include:
"¬¨?Ø 1 Million new PSPs were sold in Japan in around two months. This first point got us curious as to why the PSP was doing so well. Was it because of the redesign, which lead to 250k sales in four days, or has it actually become time (thanks to various factors listed below) for the PSP to catch up, if not surpass, the Nintendo DS. This point alone wouldn't make for a strong argument, but we've found seven more.

¬¨?Ø Sales figures for PSPs are going up, sales figures for DS Lites are going down (in Japan). According to the Japanese sales charts Kotaku loves to drool over, the last four weeks for the DS looked like this: 76243, 78552, 78854, 76069. The last four weeks for the PSP looked like this: 59792, 59714, 58964, 65609. DS sales seems to have plateaued (the slight dip probably means nothing), whereas the PSP sales got a nice spike this past week. Has everyone over there finished the new Zelda game already?"

something to consider, they say that 20million people have ds' in japan, 7 million PSPs
that means 1 in 6 people in jpan have a ds. could that have something to do with the slow down?

so what say you?

*UPDATE*

Who does not have a DS already? Seems to me everyone in the world should have one by now. It is pretty cool and I do wish I had more interest in it. Most likely I just do not have the time to put on it.

It only makes sense that when everyone has a DS that they eventually want to expand their gaming. PSP has some good games for it. I think it needs more though as I still do not think it is justified a purchase yet.

Like the PS3 it has all the potential in the world and the only thing holding it back are the games or lack there of.

1 out of 6 in japan is not nearly everyone.
and i think that's the ds' biggest market right now. which is also sad with the whole r4 fiasco.

Well you support R4 so you just a part of the problem. You have also been encouraging everyone about the R4. If people are so pro Nintendo and want to support it then do not fuck them over for pretty cheap games to begin with.

and the r4 has other uses as well.

and besides, this is japan they're talking about not the whole world. the ds is still kicking ass in the states and just had a huge surge in sale in the uk for some odd reason.

Still with popularity of R4 it has already reached here by a long shot and using excuses of I cannot afford so I will steal it is retarded. Funny thing is you will beat the games and later go well I beat it so why buy it.

unless you're like johnny.

maybe i'll change my mind once i'm able to download demos of games through the wii.

Yeah but you went from poor student to they suddenly need demos. Obviously you can never stop piracy. But really for Wii being the cheap alternative eventually they will next gen probably be forced to up prices on games.

what do you mean? like maybe the wii is a quick money making idea and next gen will be the real contender?

sounds like something sega would do...

Well Wii was a scheme. Look at it this way.
- No solid support, poor ports from 3rd party, slow release schedule for 1st party and not very epic either.
- Online was poorly thought out, friend codes, wireless play. Basically the worst choices from a networking standpoint for online play.
- VC which was a selling point has been poorly updated with awful selection. 3rd parties profiting more from their original systems.
- Wii-mote was a scam. Innovative for wii-sports and fps but even then poorly implemented.
- Peripherals are poorly made even made to look worse then alpha showings (zapper)
- Mii are poorly implemented (fashion show, ooooo)
- Wii channels are poor (voting!, weather, photo)

Some of these features are ok and not horrid but so much could have been better.

Thing is they still have their old Nintendo mindset nomatter how they sugar coat things to the fanboys. I thought they were onto something but did not take me long to know I was had.

Hell their DS is wayyy better then the wii I find. It appeals because of the promises and their age groups they aim for. To the regular teen-adult if you like what is there fine but do not wonder why everyone makes for of the company. To me it is a fun family center not a video gaming console to be compared with the others.

i hate to say it but the more i see the more i agree with you.

but i still have fun with the machine. and even the third party games i've played have been quite enjoyable, with exceptions of course.

I will give it the party games are enjoyable. It does have enjoyable games but that is the only thing keeping it going. In Japan while they buy it still have a whole ton of people just tossing it to the side hence PS3 sales jumping up. It is not much of a game experience enhancement but hey what is there to lose with the cheaper price point.

Nintendo just does not get it period. I think if they want to take it seriously the top guys need to be axed otherwise they will breed more conservative people who want to play it safe.

I can almost say if Sega said next year or next gen we will have a new system. Bye bye Nintendo or very least take a good chunk of their core market. But come to think of it, core market for them is not us. It is the children. Food for thought

but the top guys were just axed, iwata just got in, miyamoto is not new, but i don't think he has enough power to make huge decisions like this.

if you ask me they need to get rid of harrison, he's been there longer than miyamoto.

Harrison just a spokesman. And I am sure Miyamoto has pull. I think in all honesty Reggie, Iwata and Miyamoto need to step away.

he actually seems to want to do something for the company though.
