It looks pretty nice, but the reason i hadn't bought a kindle before is:

Q: If I live outside of the US, can I buy a Kindle?
A: To buy a Kindle, you must have a valid amazon.com account, with a US shipping address and a credit/debit card that comes from an American bank.

Also i'm not even sure you can transfer files directly to the device, you have to use the kindles wireless system. You email the file to a special address and amazon converts it to their format at 15 cents per megabyte. Then it uses sprints network to transfer the file to your phone. That wouldn't work here.

i hate closed systems like that. there must be a way around it, maybe a homebrew kindle scene could develop

so you get charged for the conversion and then without the right cellphone plan, get charged for the transfer. thats just obnoxious.

Actualy i don't thing there's a need for a cell plan, that's probably what the 15 cents is for. The problem i have with it is that there's no need for wireless in this product, it just inflated the price adding it in and it probably drains the battery faster than my sony since there's no option to turn it off.

there must be a point for the wireless. if anything, maybe for a future os upgrade or something?

The main reason for it is that you can access the internet on the device and receive RSS updates and magazine subscriptions. I don't know how anyone would be able to use the web properly on a kindle and the other services could all be offered by downloading it to the computer. It's probably a DRM thing too, if the file was sent through a computer, it could be copied.
