The scary thing is, when I saw the very first strandbeest in the very first video you posted, it instantly reminded me of this manga I read called Gyo Which is about an invasion of machines that function on the exact same principle as these strandbeests, only are powered by the gases produced by decomposing bodies, instead of naturally occuring winds. It's a gross and rather disturbing manga, but non the less is a fascinating and thrilling read.

The immediate parallels that were drawn in my mind were a little unsettling, though, I must say.
